Hormuth, Brown pace Mile Challenge with record runs CUMBERLAND – Defending champion Ashley Hormuth won the girls title in the Kids Mile Challenge Sunday at Allegany College of Maryland by lowering her course record set last year. Hormuth, 10, finished the 1-mile loop course in 7 minutes, 23 seconds. She improved 18 seconds over her time on the same course in 2007. She was eighth overall on Sunday out of 83 runners. Kaylee Buckbee, 9, was second in 7:41 and Natasha O’Brien, 12, was third in 8:02. Derek Fuller, 13, cruised to the finish line first among young men in 6:24, outdistancing Kristian Robinette, 9, by 22 seconds. Fuller gained several seconds on Robinette, who finished in 6:46, on the slight decline towards the finish line in an all-out sprint. Ben Levitas, 12, was third overall in 6:55. Kari Brown, 34, set the women’s course record in the Parent’s Mile Challenge in 6:27. Jen Thomas, 36, was second (7:50) and Tammy Clem, 37, was third in 8:16. Two-time champion Charlie Falter was the first male to stop the clock in the grown-up’s challenge. Falter, 43, of LaVale, finished in 5:55, 16 seconds of his winning time in 2007. Greg Fuller, 21, finished in 6:00 and edged Kevin Spradlin (6:04) for second place.
